Driving his British Sunbeam car at Brooklands to-<lay, Kaye Don, the famous racing motorist, beat the world’s record from a standing start for a mile, covering the distance at the rate of 100.77 miles per hour.

Don also beat Class C. records as follows:. —Standing start, kilometre, 85.91 miles per hour; flying start, kilometre 140.95 miles per hour; flying start, mile, 136.98 miles per hour. During the effort a swallow struck the mechanic in the face and the bird was killed by the impact, but the mechanic was not seriously hurt.
