On Saturday a 70-mile gale struck i the district, driving before it .torren- ' iial rain, resulting in flooded creeks and rivers. ■ y At Lismore many people were trapped in. their home and several are missing. . ‘ Fire added to the’terror’at Ballina,’ where flames, fanned by a gale .gutted . the principal business ' section. The , - damage is estimated, at £30,000. Eight .inches, of rain fell at Lismore in 4$ hours. A lull in the storm removed the immediate danger. 7 . >
