CRIMINAL ASSAULT
—1 1 DALMATIAN ARRESTED. * ( (By Telegraph—Press Association). AUCKLAND, June 30. , Robert Maddox, aged about 30, i quarrvman, living at Takapuna, step- j ped into the Auckland Police Station I yesterday and stated that another J man had criminally assaulted his j wife. He said that he had chased j the other man with a revolver. j The nolice decided to detain Maddox while inquiries were made; and last evening a charge of attempted murder was preferred against him. Maddox’s version of the .matter is that he went to work as usual on Friday, and returned home for tea. Later in the evening he said he noticed that his wife was upset, and he began to question her. She then beean to sob bitterly and made in serious allegation against another man Maddox is said to have told the police that he located the man he was seeking, but in response to two pulls of the trigger, the revolver only clicked. The development to-day was the arrest of Jerko Didovieh, a Dalmatian, who is charged with rape.
