NELSON COLLEGE
CABINET GRANT
NELSON, June 26,
The Minister for Education, Mr Atmore, has telegraphed to Air Frank Hamilton, chairman of the Nelson College Board of Governors, intimating that Cabinet has agreed to his recommendation for a grant lor the acquisition of seven acres near the College. The first act of the Minister was to obtain a grant for the purpose of erecting two hostels to meet the overcrowding existing in the boarding accommodation in connection with the rapidly increasing institution. It is proposed to erect two hostels on terraces that will give a very pleasing non-continuous line of buildings running Trom the present, main structure by Waimoa Road right through to the hillside. The Minister’s further plan is to acquire some acres on the western slope of the Grampians at the end so that this may be planted with trees to make a proper setting for the new buildings. The transaction makes a distinctly forward step in the progress of one of the most notable educational institutions in the Dominion.
