RAILWAY COMPLETION
IN SOUTH ISLAND. vi FARMERS NOT UNANIMOUS. CHRISTCHURCH, June 26. The Executive of the North Canterbury Farmers’ Umon to-day discussed the South Island Alain Trunk Railways, and the policy or Sir Joseph Ward in deciding the completion of the gap, Mr A. Fisher urged tho Executive to follow the lead of the Mid-Can-terbury Uii'nn, and to pass a motion embusing Sir Joseph Ward's policy He suggested tluit the South Islam! pet ole -Mould show the same unity as the North Islanders, in pressing the Government' to get public works completed, and spoke of the direct and indirect benefits which would come from the completion of the lire'. The discussion, as it developed, showed that opinion was about evenly divided on the question of whether tho line should be constructed or not. '
The Chairman, Mr Oolin Mclntosh, said it would he very dangerous for the Executive to pass a resolution on the lines suggested, for the farmers of North' Canterbury were not all unanimous that the line was desirable
or necessary.' No resolution was submitted, and the discussion ended.
