POLITICAL APPOINTMENTS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 24. Tlie following appointments in the Royal Household have been approved by the King:— Earl of Cromer to be Lord Chamberlain. * Earl of Shaftesbury to be Lord . v“Steward. ; ' ; ' J'.Earl of Granard to be Master of the Horse. Mr Ben Smith to, be Treasurer .of..the. ildus6hold. ' Mr Thomas Henderson to be Comp‘roller of -.the flousehold. Mr John Hayes to be Vice-Chamber-lain. The Earl of Cavan to-be Captain of the Gentlemen-at-Arms. Major-General Lord Loch to be Captain of the Yb’omen of the Guard. ■ Mr-Ben Smith, who has lieen a member of Parliament for Rotlierhithe since 19?3, is the organiser of the Transport and General Workers’ Union, and has hem the Labour Party whip for three years. Mr Thomas .Henderson, who is sixty- • one years old, has been Labour member of Parliament for Tradeston, Glasgow, since 1922. He is the Scottish .Labour whip, and was prominent in the co-operative movement. Mr John 'Honrv Hayes is an expoliceman, and is a son of a police inspector. He has been Labour member of Parliament for Edgehiil, Liverpool, for six years. Shortly after joining tlie Metropolitan Police Force in 1901 ho was appointed to the administrative staff, and became a sergeant.
