MAN KILLED

CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER LAID. AUCKLAND, June 24. An argument in a boarding-house in Victoria St. West at about 4 o’clock .his afternoon followed by a scullle in the street outside terminated in the death of Albert Ludig, a fisherman. The argument started in a hoard-ing-house kept by a Dalmatian. Ludwig and another man came outside, still arguing. There was a short scuffle and a bystander tried to separate the pair. His intervention came too late. A blow was struck and Ludwig fell to the ground striking his head on the pavement. Although an ambulance was quickly on the scene he died before he could he admitted to hospital. Shortly afterwards Thomas Ni/fich was arrested on a charge of manslaughter. When the ambulance arrived the 'driver could see that the injured man was not likely to live. There was a large bruise on his left temple which might have been inflicted by a blow, and it was thought his skull had been fractured when he struck the pavement.

The police interviewed a number of people who witnessed the affair, including several who reside in the boarding-house. Nizieli is a man ol slight build and walks with a limp. He arrived in New Zealand from Dalmatia in 1913. Ludwig was married and is survived hv his wife and two sons, who were engaged with him in the running of a fishing boat. They reside at Newton. Ludwig was a New Zealander, having been born at Thames.
