At the inquest concerning the death of Thomas William Atkinson, 19, farm employee, who succumbed under an anaesthetic while undeYgoiug a nasal operation, Dr A. G„t Waddell opined that death was due'to an enlarge thymus gland, a vejf'y unusual condition. There were several theories as to how abnormal} thymus brought about death. It was believed that the possessor. was, unusually susceptible to the action of chemical physical agents, such /as anaesthetic shock. A motor-car driven by Frank HutJ r c ter, assistant sporting announcer for I YA, crashed through the rail of the overhead traffic bridge on Kliyber Pass Road at 11 a.m. :and.-dropped on to the railway track twenty feet below. H utter was accompanied by W. Penton, relay operator. Hutter sustained a fractured arm and Penton escaped with a slight scratch. Both suffered badly from shock.
