The Executive of the Federation of Master Cotton Spinners and Cottop Manufacturers have agreed to ask foi a reduction olf wages of about pei cent, beginning on 3rd August. A month’s notice lias been served op half a million operatives. It is expected before the notices terminate that the employers will take a ballot of their members. The support of 80 per cent being necessary to give effect to the executive’s proposal. The men’s leaders have already stated t lie re will lie uncompromising opposition to the reduction. It is believed, if pressed, the result will be a general lock-out.
