Sergeant Hannah and Constable Gilmore, of Paddington, were patrolling the district in a police car, when, short ly after II o’clock they saw a car approaching at a terrific speed. The policeman caught a fleeting glance of the number plate of the car, and immediately they recognised it as being the number of a car which Mr H. Travelling at high speed, the policemen pursued the thieves through streets and narrow laneways for moie tnan six milfes before the fugitives slackened speed. Just as the police drew alongside the stolen car, the occupants, two men, leapt to the ground and ran away. Sergeant Hannah with revolver drawn, jumped from the police car, and bailed them up. Meanwhile the stolen car careered uncontrolled down a slight incline. •. nnstable Gilmore ran after the stolen vechicle, and, boarding it, be managed to stop it before it crashed into a stone wall at the foot of the hill.
