MAIL BAG THEFTS

MAN CHARGED

(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.)

DUNEDTN, June 21

William Reynolds Sanders, in the Police Court this morning, before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., was charged with stealing £3 17s, the property of the Postmaster General, and with stealing a cash box containing £3 in money, and also an overcoat, making a total of £B. He was also charged on two counts with stealing mail hags, the property of the Postmaster General, with intent to rob or search the bags.

After evidence against the accused was given, counsel for accused (Mr C. J. L. White) said that Sanders had been before the Supreme Court about 12 months ago on a charge of arson, and that medical evidence was given that the accused must die within two years. He was still in poor health, and was unlikely to recover. His relatives wished to have him examined, both physically and mentally, and they thought his trouble was preying on his mind.

Sanders was remanded in custody until June 28.
