Dieudonne, an innocent convict, who was sent to Devil’s Island for alleged murder, and who escaped, has returned to France, afid; has established hiA innocence. He 'ik" now receiving .three hundred francs daily for a dramatic depiction of his life in the convict prisons. PRAYER BOOK CRISIS. LONDON, June 21. A new Prayer Book crisis has arisen. The Bishops, at a conference at Lambeth Palace last week, have decided to recommend to the Convocation on the 10th. July, the use of the 1928 Prayer Book Revision, subject to certain conditions.
It is understood that the vote of the House of Commons on the matter will be ignored. Tlie Bishop of Exeter disagrees with the proposed action, declaring that it is not the right of the clergymen to use any Book other than that of 1662, without the authority of Parliament. He said he had taken an oath to this effect, and was bound thereby. Sir Wm, Joynson Hicks says that he is desperately sorry at the Bishops’ decision, which he says, will be a very serious one for the Church.
MR JO WITT RESIGNING. LONDON, June 21. Mr W. Jowitt is resigning Preston and desires to recontest the seat in the Labour interest. His decision follows strong manifestations of Liberal resentment at Jowitt’ s defection. GERMAN CABINET DECISION. BERLIN, June 21. After hearing Herr Stresemann’s report of conversations at Madrid and Paris, Cabinet resolved that Government are prepared to accept Owen Young!s plan as a basis for a conference. Government expects as a corollary, a simultaneous definite liquidation of settled questions arising from tne world war. COMING CONFERENCE. PARIS, June 21. It is expected the Powers’ Conference reference to Exports Reparations Report, will be held at some Swiss town, Legano or Lausanne, about the middle of July.
