AT THURSDAY ISLAND.Press Association) THURSDAY ISLAND, Juno 17. The ’German warship, “Emden” ar--iyed and stayed a few hours here on Saturday. Then she left tor Auckland. Oil and coal supplies were taken aboard. The. Emden was prepared to fire -a salute, but those aboard soon realised from the salute by the flag message of the local military station to the Emden that there' would ho no exchange of guns. The ship’s band then played “Under the Double Eagle.” The Mayor and Lieut. Kendall, officer in charge of the local defences went aboard and greeted Captain Commandant Von Arnauld de la Periare, and Kapitan Lieut. Earnese Xreenberg.
One of the mementos in a room revealed that Commandant Peri ere had been in command of the German submarine U 35. None of the crow came ashore.
