Stevenson failed to enhance. 11—0. There followed many exchanges of long kicks, the main feature beine clean kicking, and then from a mark Stevenson found the opposing 25 line. Blaketown again relieved with a penalty. and’the plav went to Excelsior quarters, where Freitas played the man and Blaketown had another shot. An exchange of kicks between the two full-backs saw Nightingale gain the advantage, but the play went back to the centre. Ryan off-side gave another penalty to the visitors, and again Paseoe missed an easy 'kick, half-time coming without any further score.

The play in the second half was not nearly as open, the forwards having most of the play and there was an extra lot of serums and line-out play of a moderate nature. A series of long kicks opened the play, with following line-outs and scrums. Then Excelsiors went away in a passing run, which stopped at King, Bunt intercepting, but ho was stopped and the ball came back in a loose rush, in. which Kelly picked up and went over to score. With a quarter of an hour to go the play quietened, till from long kicks play entered Blaketown quarters. Hughes" showed up in a forward rush and then from a scrum near the line the Red hacks handled. Davidson, J. King, Houston, Staines and R. King, the latter going over to score a good try. Nightingale again failed to improve. 20—0. The closing feature was a rush by Staines and thou a run by Houston who broke through and kicked, and made danger but Paseoe relieved and time was called with Excelsiors still on the attack, the winners by 20 to 0. The game was a disappointing one in that Blaketown never gave a glimpse of the form that had carried them through the season. The- Excelsiors had the upper hand throughout. The forwards much the heavier, had all the best of the scrums, even though Blaketown gained possession of the ball many times, Excelsiors unshed their opponents off their feet time and again. Their tackling throughout was solid, and following up was a decidod improvement. The backs also showed to advantage having more initiative than usual. Ol the forwards Hughes and Freitas were the most prominent, but all worked well, while the backs gave easily their best exhibition of the season. The Blaketown team were overshadowed from the start. The forwards wore much lighter, and their tackling was not too sound at times. Mason stood out among the hacks, while Paseoe, at full-back, had an equally good opponent opposite him, and his place-kicking, which has won many points this season, proved a failure on this occasion, three easy kicks, among others, being missed.'

Stars threw the ball about in good style. Fong kicked a goal from a penalty, and Stars led by 8 to 3. Meredith later secured' a try, and Fong converted. The .pressure of Stars proved too much for the defence, and towards the finish Meredith again crossed, Fong adding the extra points. The final score came when Brown went over the line, Fong failing to convert and Stars left the field winners by a margin of 18 points. ARAHURA II V.
