The Hawke’s Bay Union notified that they were challenging Wairarnpa for the Ranfurly Shield bn July 20th. The Buller Union wrote applying for a, subsidy of £IOO for the purpose of sending a representative team to play matches against the West Coast at Greymouth, Ashburton at Ashburton, .Marlborough at Blenheim, Golden Bay at Motueka, and Nelson at Nelson. It was decided to request the Buller Union to supply an estimate of the cost of the tour, and a return of the terms they were receiving from the Unions which it was proposed to visit. Rain had made the ground very heavy, and further showers during the match caused a good deal of mishandling of the ball. Nevertheless there were occasional glimpses of good combined play.
