COUNTRY RACING CLUBS
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Now Zealand Country Racing Clubs’ Association will ho held at Wellington on July 10. ]jf is proposed to bring (forward motions at the annual meeting to the following effect: —- (a) Asking Government, when finances permit, to grant' an increased totnlisator rebate to smaller clubs based on ail average totnlisator turnover of, say, .010,000 per clay. (b) To remit amusement tax on members’ subscriptions, such being fully essential for the club’s stability in providing funds 'for general management. (c) That assistance be*granted owners attending small meetings (where stakes are small), free transport by rail for competing horses on the return journey. (d) That as a further assistance to owners at small meetings stakes taxon sums not more than CIOO won in any event he reduced to 2A per cent. (e) That it he suggested to the New
Zealand Racing Conference that during the present period of difficulty and stringency for many struggling country clubs new rules affecting stakes, distances, class races for jockeys, etc; be made permissive by giving wider executive powers to the president and committee for use where deemed desirable, particularly under Part VI. governing race meetings. In a circular letter to the members of the association mention is made 6f the efforts which have been made by the sporting authorities to induce the Government to bring down favourable legislation during the session of Parliament, and it is suggested that a de-. putation wait on the Prime Minister and urge the case specially o>f the' country racing clubs.
