Lieutenant Ivonnet, an officer wlio had never piloted an aeroplane in his life, had a terrifying experience at la* Bourgot when lie was left alone/in a machine from which the pilot 1 had been thrown out during the violence of a gale. Lieut. Sellier invited bis brother officer, Lieut. Ivonnet, to take a joy ride to Chartres for luncheon. When they were returning Lieut. Sellier discovered that be could not land at Le Bourget, owing to the military regulations, so he .flew about to pass the time away. Suddenly a storm broke, and the aeroplane was thrown about in a horrible fashion, until Lieut. Sellier was thrown out. Lieutenant Ivonnet was too excited to think of using the parachute strapped on his back. Instead be clasped the control, and found that lie was able to manage it. He tried to recall the thing lie had seen the pilot do. and then he got the plane to make smaller circles. When it came down, it nose-dived for the last few yards, but be scrambled out alive, though the plane was ripped to piec.es. , Lieut Sellier landed safely by means of his parachute.
