American diplomatic authorities believe that the recognition of the Vatican City’s sovereignty by the United States Government is inevitable, although an exchange of representatives is improbable. In the opinion of the State Department. these two problems are entirely separate. The recognition of Papal Sovereignty would he but the recognition rtf an obvious fact, whereas the exchanging of representatives would depend on the State-involved American interests in the Vatican City, whir are not expected to warrant a diplomatic mission.
