Tlie Genera] Secretary of the Labour Council advises sympathisers to vote tfor flie South African Party. He stated the Labour Party was wrecked and ruined by the selfish and ambitious and most pitiable thing in,South African politics. The introduction of unexpected elements leaves the country confused as to the prospects' of the general election. The question of dominion status has been dispelled, chiefly by differences among the Dutch section 'of the population. The more sober element believe the present differences are not substantial. Uncertainty has arisen over the bitter division in the Labour

ranks. . Cresswellites and Nationalists are solidly combined while supporters of the National Council arc not supporting the South African paity. The only certainty is that Labour will be considerably weakened. it is believed a pact has been made with the party to secure a sufficient majority to form a Government. Ministers claini a majority of thirteen, while the South African Party anticipate a narrow majority over a parties.
