IN COAL STRIKE AFFAIRS (Australian Press Association) (Received this day at 9.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, Jiune 7.

The seething discontent in the coalfields culminated yesterday in the men taking the dispute out of the hands of the leaders and the picketing by eight hundred miners of Hebburn collieries In the early morning four hundred miners marched four miles to Hebburn barricades: ' Logs' were thrown across the road to block the colliery staff cars. Undoubtedly there would have been ugly incidents but their plans had leaked out, and not only was there a strogg posse of police present but the" management had warned all colliery stuff men not to attend the colliery;

At a meeting, the withdrawal of safety men and the question of a 'general strike were discussed. There was no violence, or ‘sabotage, hut veiled tlireats of drastic action were made. The crowd which--was then reinforced by several hundred otthers, marched in a hodjii to each, of .the houses of members of the bolliery staff, who were warned against handling coal-. The mob was escorted by the police.

There is ,/a promising development n the coal deadlock. It was an-

nouneed that representatives of the coal owners and miners would meet to arrange a round table conference of all parties.
