WELLINGTON, May 29. A meeting of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union was hold to-night. Mr S. S. Dean presided. t. The following re-admissions to the Rugby Union code were grantedlv. J. White (Opotiki), J. O’Sullivan (Opotild) H. Mann (Gramty), C. Nelson (Denniston), T. Smyth (Denniston), M. Gough (Westport), AA . J. O’Loughlin (Temuka), 8. AV. Payne .(Christchurch), A. R- Priest (Pigeon .Bay), C. S. Crotty (Le Boil’s Bay), .T C Tavlor (Auckland), J. A. Te •Puni’ (Petone), O. D. J. Balmc-r (Auckland). The Nelson Union wrote asking whether outside evidence by spectators could he taken in regard to any breach committed, or whether the referee and the player concerned alone could state the facts of the: case. Tin) rule stated that the referee’s word was final. If that was so, the accus, ed player had no chance of establishing his innocence. Mr Dean remarked that it would he an unwise thing to admit the ’' donee of spectators, and it cided to advise the Nelson Union to this effect. Challenges for the R.anfurlv ShiOio were formally lodged by the Waikato and Wanganui Unions. Mr Dean agreed' that it would he a. good idea if outside referees were appointed to control interprovincial matches. Other members agreed with this, and it was decided to recommend, the suggestion to the affiliated unions. The Fiji Rugby Union wrote asking to he supplied with twenty copies of the laws of the game as laid down by the International Rugby Board. Air J. McLeod, of Taranaki, wa« appointed manager of the Now Zealya’nd team which is to four Australia, next month. AUSTRALIAN VARSITY .TEAM. BEATEN BY CANTERBURY COLLEGE, CHRISTCHURCH. May 29. The Canterbury College team boa 4 , the Australian Universities this afternoon at Rugby football, hv 21 ooint’(fonr tries, three converted, and penalty goal) to eight points (tv.o tries, one converted). It was a speedy, but unfinished display of Rugby, with Canterbury definitely the better side. GTie visitors played the traditional New Soutn Wales Rugby, throwing the ball about with great daring, but taking risks and making mistakes from which the sounder if less spectacular side, benefited.
