-*r Bavin (Premier of New South Wales), interviewed, stated although on an unofficial visit purely for health reasons, lie seemed fated to be denied complete rest. lie had been overwhelmed hv hospitality. He was delighted with proofs, first hand, of the cordial, relations between Britain and Australia. lie was thrilled by the magnificent royal tournament at Olympia, and the display of physical prowess typical of the British peoples striving to achieve, the maxim , in, despite unemployment-. Referring to the Pope’s audience, lie said: •‘The Pone was charmingly courteous. warm-hearted, and declared I was the lirst official visitor to the Papal State. “The Pope expressed gratification at the success of the Eucharistic Congress and appreciated Australia’s ifervent devotion to the church. Ilis Holinessmanifested interest in Australia’s progress, interrogating me for a- quarter of an hour.”

.Mr Bavin leaves for Australia via Canada on 6th July. Meantime he hopes to spend his time trout-fishing in English streams miles from London, “ where there is sunshine and calm solitude. I feel 1 need a rest.”
