GREYMUUTH, May 28

At the Magistrate's Court yesterday the following easiness was included in the list dealt with. The licensee of the Commercial Hotel at Nelson Creek, was fined £2 and costs for selling liquor on a Sunday.

Win T. Blackman, licensee of the Club Hotel, Blackball, was fined £6 and costs for exposing liquor for sale after hours.

Charles Patrick McCarthy, 34, was charged that, on April ltrtli. at Christchurch, he obtained £>l from Aiva Herbert Candy by means .of a false pretence—that a lady’s handbag had been ordered by Ernest Charles Scan- — with intent to defraud. Ho pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one month gaol. . Morvyn Hallihan pleaded guiUy to charges of killing absolutely protected game at Stillwater on May Ist. and having pigeons- in Ills possession. Sen-ior-Sergeant <C. E. Roach informed the S.M. that, when stopped by Constable Rodgers, defendant staled that there wore tuis in his bag, but lie was no better off, as tuis were protected as well as pigeons. Defendant’s shotgun had been confiscated by the police. Hallihan, who had nothing to say, was convicted and fined £3, with 10s costs, on the first charge, and was convicted and ordered to pay 10s costs on the second charge. 1 James Block sage, on a charge of failure to pay a maintenance order, with arrears of £252 did not appear. Defendant had told the constable that lie had no intention of paying the maintenance. Blocksage added that he was always willing to go to gaol. Sen-ior-Sergeant C. E. Roach said that Blocksa|ge was released in January last, aftor serving a sentence of three months in Greymouth gaol. Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., sentenced defendant to a further term of three months.

On a charge of using a motor lorfyv without a heavy traffic license, on the Kumarn road on April Ist., Alexander Barnett Spiers was convicted and fined £5, with 10s Court costs and £1 Is. solicitor’s fee. Spiers was engaged in carrying passengers to and from the course on the day of the Kumarn, races.
