HOUSE BADLY GUTTED
Hy Telegraph—Press Assn., Copyright. BLENHEIM, -May 24. A ton-roomed house owned by the Horton estate, and occupied by C. U. •Tames, was badly gutted by lire yesterday evening. Nobody was at home at toe time on the outbreak. The fire had a big hold when the Brigade arrived and an excellent save was effected. Insurances are L'obO on the house in the State office, and £1350 on the contents m the ’North British and .Mercantile office.
STONEMASON STRIKE KNITS. AUCKLAND, -May 24. After being idle for six months, Auckland stonemasons to-day returned to work at the new railway station. When the dispute arose, hi teen men left the job. They have returned under protest, contending that the Arbitration Court decision a few days ago, not to limit the calibre of the machines used is unfair and against the weight of evidence.
