HOCKEY.
A Correspondent writes: —Hokitika clashed sticks with Blackball yesterday when the home team won by a substantial margin of G to nil, alter a hard and fast game. Blackball goalie saved her team from heavier defeat. Two penalty bullies, a rare occuire nee were given when Blackball goalie to 'stop certain goals sat on the hall. Scores were secuirod by J. Hall (2), M. Sumner (2), and E. Batson 2 (1 penalty). Hokitika forwards played with dash and good passing but should have scored more. They were supported by the L. Staines, right half, playing splendidly. The backs’ clearances were good and the goalie stopped a. couple of hot shots, but did not have very much work. The lighter Hokitika team were superior to their heavier opponents who were puzzled with the passing and bill’d hitting. Messrs J. Rutland and Richmond controlled the whistles and alilv carried out the rules. The. visitors wore entertained by the local girls to afternoon tea at. Mr Stapleton’s residence. Mr Hogg, of Blackball. thanked Hokitika for their hospitality and also for a good clean exhibition of hockey. Mr Bulpin suitid,|v replied on Hokitika’s behalf.
