WEST COAST RUGBY UNION. The Committee met last evening at Grcymouth, Mr A. A. Adams presiding. The 'Brunner Club asked that E, Sorenson and J. Kerr he reclassified from senior to junior grade.—Granted. K. N. Glover applied for a transfer from Colxlen juniors to Magpie seniors. The • Secretary of the Cobden Club forwarded a clearance, and the application was granted. The Mori vale (Club advised Ith at their senior team would play 'u Greymonth on June 3rd, and asked that the team’s expenses by met if possible. The Secretary reported that the Westland sub-'inion did not desire that players from their area be chosen in’ the team to meet Merivale, as on ,3rd June they intended holding the annual seven-a-side tournament. Following a Emission on the question as to whether a lump sum or a percentage of Cm gate receipts be granted the Merivale team, ft was resolved that GO p- cent of the nett receipts be handed to the visitors. It was further resolved that the team to meet Merivale be chosen from Grcymouth players, and that omission of sub-union players wo-hl not effect their chances for incUism i in representative matches. . v ( The Secretary advised that in answer to his circular to clubs, requesting that all cups and trophies jhe handed in for the purpose of taking an inventory, the Excelsior Club had communicated with him to the effect that they held the Devaney Cun. which was played for in the sub-, nnion comnctition,’ and the Wednesday Cup, but the McKeehnie Cup they were unable to trace. Delegates pointed out that Excelsiors won this ~,m in 1927. and it was presented to them at Victoria Pai% and it must be in the custody of one of the Club’s officials.
The Secretary informed, the meeting that the Kiwi Club had advised him that Griffiths was a member of the Rimu Club, at the time of his disqualification and was not, as reported, a member of the Kiwi Club. On the motion of the President It was resolved that the Bev Zealand Union be advised that Griffiths was a member of the Kimu Club at the time of his disqualification. The Westland’ , SubrDnion asked that the Merivale team be approached to play a seveii-a-side tournament at Hokitika on Wednesday, sth June. The President remarked that he did not consider there would he a chance of Merivale being able, to accept the invitation, but moved that Meiivale lie advised of the inquiry from Hokitika.
The United Club protested against the Excelsior Club playing a man named Ryan in last Saturday’s senior fixture. It was alleged that Ryan was a member of the Kokatahi Club when he played for Excelsiors. After discussion it was resolved that the Secretary be instructed to make inquiries through the Sub-Union as to whether Ryan was a member of the Kokatahi Club when he played last Saturday.
The President reported that there were three matches in view so far this season, Buller, Merivale and Canterbury. Many major unions were not touring this year. It was possible that the Coast may get another yisiting club here before the close of the season. Definite instructions are to be issued to referees to observe strictly the rule touching upon the “imaginary” line appertaining! to wing forward play. That is the wing forward must keep behind the ball while it is in the scrum. “In the carrying out of this rule referees should err on the severe side rather than on the lenient,” added Mr Adams.
Tlie President further stated that in the North v. South Island match the present kick-into-touch rule will be played.. . . FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY. SENIOR.
