“Tivoli Theatres will never again be at the service of University Undergraduates.” This official statement followed comment on a night of unprecedented hooliganism, during which the Vice-Chancellor of the University was howled down, when lie tried to restore order, and the President of the
Under Graduates’ Assuciatidn was pelted with crackers, and others counted out.
Jack Baity, a well-known English comedian, leapt from the stage and punched a student. Other artists refused to go on. Some who did. left in fears, having been pelted with rotten eggs and all manner of vegetables aiul fruit. The orchestra suffered the same injustice. A few students were ejected from the theatre.
Afterwards a crowd of several hundred students careered madly through tbe streets shouting wildly and dislocating traffic.
The cenotaph was desecrated by several loaders oi the demonstration, who threw wt'ea.ths to the ground, and broke flower vases. Two arrests were effected.
