AUCKLAND SENSATION

SHOT FIRED INTO TRAIN. [By Telegraph, Per Press Association.] ' AUCKLAND, May 18. As a suburban train, bound for the city was passing under the overhead bridge at Remuera this morning there was a loud crash, and the interior of a second class carriage was sprayed with shot. One passenger felt a stinging sensation in his foot, and picked up a pellet resembling a number three shot. The glass in tlie door of the carriage had a hole in it, and a dozen pellets, after passing through along the carriage, lodged in the woodwork of the communication door. The general opinion was that somebody on the overhead bridge fired at the passing train with a shotgun. The carriage was largely occupied by Mangere residents. Another theory is that the shot was fired from the platform of the carriage in front, but nothing was scon of any person with a shot gun on tlie train.
