■ RESULT OF MOTOR- COLLISION. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 17. A motor lorry and motor van collided at the corner of Manchester St. and Oxford Terrace on December 7th. of last year, with the result that the young man who drove one of the vehicles had his leg amputated. Jn the Supreme Court to-day before Mr Justice Adams and a jury, this man, Victor Maurice Hooper, claimed damages of £1(580 6s 2d from. the owners of the other vehicle the Perfection Ice Cream Company. Hooper was a grocer’s assistant, driving his firm’s van. It was alleged that Smith, the driver of the defendants’ vehicle failed to keep a proper look-out, travelled at an excessive speed, failed to- stop on his proper side of the road, and fai.ed to keep his lorry under proper control. The defence was a denial of negligence, and ail allegation of contributory negligence by Hooper. The jury awarded ■ Hooper £llBO Gs 2d with costs.
