PROPOSAL OBJECTED TO

CHRISTCHURCH. May 18
A steam locomotive will be used to draw the Otira excursion train through the Otira .tunnel on Sunday next. This decision has been read
in order to reel nee costs saving the necessity of bringing electric locomotive drivers on duty lor the morning shift, bn the run down grade to Otira. a great deal of braking lias to lx? used to bold the trains in control. It is understo d that engine drivers have telegraphed a protest to Wellington against, tlfe innovation on the grounds that the risk is too great.
