A decision lias been reached by the Department of Trade and Commerce to call for tenders receivable in June for a direct steamship service between British Columbia and Australia. The service will be monthly eacli way, limited to cargo boats of about 8000 tons which will sail from British Columbia ports -whenever cargo is sufficient quantities is being offered. Sail-" ing starts as soon as possible after the contract is awarded.". There is no subsidy appropriation for the service, but is understood it will be provided for when the new supplementary, estimates are brought down.
