An amateur boxing tournament at Christchurch to-night came to an untimely end, wlimi the police arrived and refused to allow it to continue. The body controlling the tournament was the Christchurch Amateur Boxing and Snorts Club, which is affiliated with the New Zealand B<»xin ,r Association. 'Phis club had not observed the no'"‘-sury formality of obtaining a permit. Earlv in the evening the .Secretary, TT. R. Sampson, remembered that he had not obtained any permit. He rangrun Superintendent Eales. The Superintendent won't! not give permission off hand, at the last moment. While the tournament was in progress, Sergeant Almond and a squad of police arrived, and ordered that the boxing cease. They took the linn'es of tlie persons concerned in controlling the tournament.
