SUSPECTED MURDER
MAN FOUND SHOT. ’By Telegraph—Press Association). OPOTIIvI, May 10. The police received word yesterday that the body of Samcul McAleese, an employee of the Public Works Depaitment was ifound dead on Motor Road. On an investigation being made, there were found extensive injuries to the man’s face and a bullet wound in the chest, which points to Foul play. The police are reticent in the matter. An inspector and detectives are expected to-day. 'l'he millet wound was not discovered till the body was committed to the morgue. Two shirts were on the body and the outside one had no bullet bole and must have been buttoned up after th e K hot was fired. The body was found by another road worker, Scotty Lappin. The scene of the tragedy was a very lonely spot on a steep road.
POLICE LEAVE FOR SCENE. GISBORNE, May 10. Inspector O’flalloran and Detective .Mci.eod left Gisborne this morning for Opotiki to investigate the case e;f a young man road worker, name at present not disclosed, found dead on roadside under suspicious circumstan ces. with a bullet wound. The bodv was removed to Opotiki hospitals. Details are meagre.
