. The Chief Secretary (Mr Chalfey) stated that greater power for tho police in dealing with gang warfare would be considered speedily l.y Cabinet. “I am of the opinion that increased power is needed bv the police in certain cases and legislation is being prepared to give them the necessary assistance. Nothing can be done till Parliament meets in September, but in the meantime the police- will lie prepared to meet any development of the present situation and will see that people are protected and iuw and order maintained.”
