LATEST FIGURES. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 9. The estimated population of New Zealand proper on May 31st. of this year, including Maoris, is 1,470,649, according to a. return furnished in the .Gazette by Mr. Malcolm Fraser, Government Statistician to-nieht, while the estimated total population of the Dominion, including Samoa, ,Cook Islands, Niue, etc. is 1',529,720. The estimated population of New Zealand proper, excluding Maoris, is 1,404,950, while the Maori population is 65,693. The North Island population, including Maoris is 932,322 and excluding Maoris it is 869,537. The South Island population is 535,420 excluding Maoris.
