CHRISTCHURCH COUNCIL
THE ELECTION RESULTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, May 8. After six days of counting at £4.0 per day, the Returning Officers this evening declared the result of the City Council election, the voting having been bv proportional representation. The following is the new Council: — CITIZENS’ ASSOCrATION CANDIDATES. Andrews Beanland Heaven Hester Lyons J. Pa rlane Williamson Mrs I'Taer LABOUR PARTY A. Iv Armstrong Butterfield F. Cooke E. Parlane Sharpe 1). u. Sullivan Mrs McCombs INDEPENDENT. Dr. H. T. Tliacker Mr Armstrong stood without the endorsement of the Labour Representation Committee, but lie will join up with the Labour group. yi The two Parlanes; although in opposing parties, are brothers. Counting the Mayor, the strength of parties in the City Council is: Labour 8 • j / Citizens 8 Independent 1
