The West)) rt “News” states. Air Basra nd reports that good work was carried out an Saturday by the Public Works gang in furthering improvements at Stitt’s Bluff on the WestportInangahua highway. A large quantity of overhanging rock was brought down, including one block of 109 tons. The block lodged on the road and a charge of only about H pounds of gelignite served to loosen the rock and let it drop over the side with spectacular effect when it dropped into the river. Tt was not possible to clear the road entirely before dark, with consequent extended closure to traffic. Before the work is completed, further delays are to he expected, hilt the travelling public will appreciate that such are unavoidable and that all care is being taken, particularly owing to the dangerous nature of the work and tlie necessity to minimise danger and inconvenience to all concerned.
