BRITISH AGRICULTURE. MINISTRY’S CREDIT SCHEME. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 3. Colonel Walter Guinness. Minister of Agriculture, stated in the House of Commons last night tillnt- £585,000 wa« being spent annually on agricultural education and research, but increased expenditure -on this wfork must be faced. Referring to the Ministry’s proposals to strengthen the economic position of agriculture, he said that the agricultural mortgage corporation set up under last year’s agricultural credit system had lvecome operative, and had advanced long term loans for the purchase and permanent improvement of farms up to £1,250,000, and it was examining applications tor oilier loans to the extent off another £2,2.50,000. Dealing with the sugar beet industry, Colonel Guinness recalled that before the war there were only ’three factories in England producing 10,000 tons of sugar. There were now nineteen factories producing 195,000 tons of sugar THANKS OFFERING FUND. . “AUDAX” RECEIVED BY PRINCE OF WALES, 1 RUGBY. May 3. The thanks offering fund for the King’s convalescence now amounts to over £136,000, apart from the £105,000 promised by “Andax.” Of this sum, which lies been subscribed in four days, £l2O 000 is earmarked for tho National Radium Fund, which now amounts to £143,790. Lord and Lady Inehcapo gave £SOOO each. Yesterday’s contributions included a second gift of £IO,OOO from Lloyds, whose .first contribution was £15.000. “Audax” visited St James’s Palace, where lie was privately received by the Prince of Wales. Ho remains anonymous, and was described as “Audax” in the Court Circular, which mentioned the visit. The publication of a nom de plume in a Court Circular is without precedent
