It is reported that a sensational incident, possibly without precedent in the Dominion, occurred in the suburb ■f Yelverton oil Saturday afternoon, it. being alleged that following upon a dispute regarding family matters, a young man was knocked out and while in a stale of unconsciousness operated upon with a pocket knife and maimed for life.

rt is further alleged that upon enmnleiiou of the purpose the assailant bandaged the victim and put him to lied in his house, hut being unable to stop the flow of blood Iron) the wounds inflicted, finally became alarmed and after a lapse of four or Five hours summoned medical attention and the victim was removed to the hospital, •where lie is lying at present.

As a sequel to the alleged occurrence, William Henry Osgood appeared • t the Police Court this morning .•hnrgod tl) that on. May 4th at Ael•erloii, ho did Assault one Archibald Bennie .Meek, so as to cause him actual bodily harm, and (2) that on the same •late with intent to inaim did disfigure the said Archibald Bennie Meek. Kenior-Sergt. Clarkson represented the police and made no statement in regard to the facts of the case, hut apulied for a remand for eight days and indicated that a further remand would then he applied for. He also asked that tin' first charge should be withdrawn and suggested that the remnin•ng charge was a. very serious one and the hail should ho increased. The remand was granted and hail fixed at e.|(){) and one surely of a similar amount.
