A DAILY MESSAGE
GRATITUDE!. Von have no right to gratitude just because you do a fellow a good turn. On less it he gratitude for the luck Dial made it possible J’or you to do it; and gratitude to the fellow you did the good turn for, because he gave you the chance. Who does a good turn for anothe; does a better for himself: so why expect gratitude from the one who give? you the opportunity? You are in' his debt, seeing that through him you have helped two—him and yourself. If somebody you’ve helped is un grateful, no matter how black his in gratitude, he careful about telling anyone how much he owes you. Remember, you are still his debtor. In any case, the dog that bites tin hand that feeds it is a very common dog; and the fellow who forgets in prosperity the fellow who helped him in adversity is a very common fellow. If you meet the other sort you’re lucky! Though no man has a right to exact gratitude for a good turn, no man who is worthy of the name will withhold it. Hut even when a fellow whom vou’v' helped is ungrateful, it doesn’t hurl you, hut it does hurt him. That is our old friend, compensation in action. Ingratitude has power only to hurt the ingratc. —M.
