DEATH OF SYD NICHOLLS
FATHER OF THREE ALL BLACKS. The death occurred at Wellington in the week-end of Mr Sydney Nicholls, an old-time Poneke and Wellington Rugby half-back. He was 65 years of age. He leaves six sons, Messrs Sydney, H. G., H. E., Mark, Geoffrey and Guy Nicholls, and two daughters, Mrs Le Comte and Miss Dulcie Nicholls, a leading Dominion tennis player. Although gaining his cricket cap for Wellington at the age olf 17, Syd. Nicholls. was 25 before he wore the provincial Rugby jersey in 1889 against the N.Z. Natives’ fifteen on return from Great Britain. Three ofi his sons have been All Blacks, a record equalled only by tho famous Brownlie family: AI F. (“ Mark”), 1921-2-4-6-8. H. E. Ginger”!. 1921-2-3. H. G. (“Doc”), 1923. While other brothers also played ably Ifor Petone, nonq of the Ronekeite’s son ever donned tho rcd-and-blark jersey of the older club.
