Clerk of Licensing Committee. Courthouse, Hokitika. - NORTHERN K.DING. TO THU ELECTORS Ladies and Gentlemen : WE have the honour to offer our- J selves again as your representatives on the Westland County Council. In doing so we would like to state briefly that we do so on this occasion witli a good deal of pleasure. We have bolli been connected with County government for several years, and it is particularly pleasing to report that at Lhe end of the term, the Council has discharged the overdraft and hud a credit at the bankers, in addition to this we may claim that the roads oi the County are generally in very fair order. Both results have been achieved without adding to the rates, which we hope with another good year it will be possible to reduce. On this occasion a settler is nominated. in opposition. This is due probably to our acton on your behalf ill resisting a claim on the Council which was proved through the Court to be without j ustiiicntion, and your funds were saved by our action. I nless your representatives are prepared to act in the interests of the ratepayers, the County funds could be drained quickly and your rates would increase. Wc might say every advice and consideration was given the settler in his action by tile Cfruml. but lie went on blindly to litigation which lie lost. Assuring you of our best attention to the requirements of the Riding, and tin* desire to serve the County a.s a whole in the best interests of nil.—AYo are, ladies and gentlemen. Yours obediently, BERNAR D AVAR!), J. A. MURDOCH.
