AIK, AY. STAVELEY KAREAVELLED

Air AV. Staveley of the State Forest

Service, who loft to-day for Balmoral, y North Canterbury, where he lias been promoted in the service, was I'arcwelled yesterday afternoon at Keller’s Hotel by a representative gathering of citizens. Apologies were received 'for the absence of the,Mayor (Mr Perry) *aml Deputy Mayor (Mr Jeffries) out of town, and Hon. H. L. MJcliel, AI.L.C., occupied the chair. Mr Michel' alluded to the 21 years residence of Air Stave ley in Hokitika and of his happy association with Airs Staveley in doing so much for the benefit of many" local organisations with amateur entertainments at which Mrs Staveley excels. Air Staveley as a public officer had earned good opinions on all sides 'for his urbanity and attention to duties. He had a special knowledge of the district, and rendered faithful service to the Department. They would all regret the departure of Mr and Airs Staveley, who would carry with tnem the best wishes of the entire community. As a small mark of appreciation and on behalf of those present, Air Alichel presented Air Staveley with a travelling rug. Drs Teichelmann, 'Baird, and Aland!. Messrs AfcGavock . (Conservator of State Forests), W. D. Alackay, H. Al. Coulson, AV. E. Williams, AV. AVilson, ,J. C. Alacfgalane, AI. H. Houston, and J). J. Evans, afl spoke in eulogy of Air Staveley, also making special references to Airs Staveley’s valuable work in various benefit entertainments. Mr Health was drunk with musical honours,* and Dr Teichelmann proposed the health of Airs Staveley and family, 'for whom Air AV. AVilson responded. The proceedings terminated with the singing -of Auld Lang Sync and the National Anthem. Mr Staveley left for Christchurch today, and will ,be followed later in the year by Mrs Stav-eley and family.
