BASKETBALL
SCHOOLS TOUENAMENT
In order to promote basketball among the schools of the AY est Coast an effort has been made to form a primary schools basketball association. Coast schools met in the Grey Main school on Saturday morning wlien Alt - Lurking, headmaster, was elected President, and Miss M. Fergusan of the Grey Main School was elected seereta.ry. It was decided that the schools Representatives present form the committee, which is as follows.— Mr Corking, Miss Ferguson. Miss E. Morgan (Grey Main), Miss Myers (Cobden), Mr Dunwoodio and Miss Leslie (Etuuinga), Misses Dell and Fodder (Hokitika), Mr Allen (Paroa), Mrs .Fane (ILdkitika Convent)', Bro. Tareisius (Grey Convent).
The question of a trophy was discussed and it was decided that each school taking part in the tournament contribute 7s fid towards the cost.
Jt was decided to commence the second round at Hokitika on Saturday, June c. At the conclusion of the .meeting play commenced for the first round of the competition, ele\en teams taking part. The three playing fields in the school grounds were used and the games were restricted to seven minute spells, with one minute interval.
The following were the results:— Grey Main A.—won 5 lost 1— lOpts. Grey .Main 13.—won 3, lost 2, drew 1 —7pts. Cobden A —won 1, lost 4 2pts., Cobden B.—lost 5. Riinanga—won 5, drew I—llpts. Hokitika State—won 3, lost I*. drew 2 —Spts. Hokitika Convent—won 3, lust 2 6pts. Grey Convent A.—won 4, lost 1— Bpts. Grey Convent B—won 3, lest 2—Opts. Tnvlorville—lost 5.
Paroa —won 1, lost s—2pts. The following matches are to be played before June Btb. at Groymouth: Grey Main A. v. Grey Alain B.; Grey Convent B. v. Grey Main A.; Cobden B. v. Grey Main A.; Grey Convent A. v. Grey Alain 13.; Cobden A. v. Grey Alain B.; Paroa v. Grey Alain B.; Cob. dou B. v. Paroa; Cobden A. v. Paroa; Cobden A. v. Cobden 13.; Grey Conve'nt A. V. Grey Convent B. At Hokitika :—Hokitika State v. Hokitika Oonven. Teachers are requested to forward results of these matches to the Secretary.
