Mr J. J. Mclntosh inserts a notice to the electors of the Southern Riding in this issue.

The s.s. Gael sails on Thursday for Wellington and leaves Wellington for Hokitika on Tuesday, May 7th.

Weekly social and dance, St. Mary’s Club to-morrow (Tuesday) evening. Good supper and music. Admission 2s. —Advt.

A fire occurred on Saturday even-

ing, shortly after six o’clock whereby the residence and contents of Mr John Marks, on the main road near Kanieri, was completely destroyed. Mr Marks left home for Hokitika about an hour before, and there was no one at home at the time of the outbreak, Mrs Marks being, in Kumara. The fire had a big hold when discovered and the structure was completely destroyed together with the contents. There was only £IOO insurance.
