Thirty-two have boon killed in the floods and tornadoes in mid-west, south-west, and southern states during the week-end. Two score have been injured.

The House Ways mid Means Committee mack 1 public a letter from the British Ambassador, Sir Esmo Howard, which transmitted to Congress a request from West Biding of England Chambers of Commerce. that there should he no further increase in import duties on tops, yarns and woollen and worsted tissues. The letter said the Chambers of Commerce represented three-fourths of the wool and textile industries in the United Kingdom and that their views were that the present rates were adequate to cover the differences between the relative costs of production of the fv-o countries. It was also pointed out that any increase in tariff would he contrary to the opinion expressed in Geneva resolutions, which favoured the lowering of tariff harriers, and it was also contended that the exports from the United 'States to the United Kingdom exceeded the exports I'iom the latter to United States.
