PRINCE OF WALES

LABOUR ALAN’S TRIBUTE

(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).

LONDON, April 18. The Priiu-e of Wales and Mr A. Cook (the fSewetary of the Miners’ Federation) stood chatting in a very lively fashion after a luncheon at the Mansion House at which the Prince of Avades personally thanked the workers for their contributions to the Coalfields’ Distress Fund. The Prince of Wales in his remarks said: “i wish to thank.-from the bottom of my heart the subscribers, small and large, not only in England, but in the Dominions and America—one might almost say throughout the world. The response was remarkable, but we we are not yet out of the wood. Much remains. I know that we can rely with confidence on the continued and valuable assistance of all.’’ Mr-Cook (Miners’ Secretary) said' “We owe the Prince the greatest measure of thanks for his whole-hearted oUthtfsiasm. H'e jlias. brought the Throne quite close to the populace. It is thanks to the Prince that I an: able to come here, without contaminating anyone of you. His conduct and attitude have shown that all mankind have great qualities in common.” “You, sir,” said Mr Cook, speakin directly across the table to the Prince, “have done a merveljous thing. Never was I so iin prosed as by your speech on Christmas Night. 1 was with two Communist friends when your name was announced. They undoubtedly scoffed but when you bad finished theiv were tears in their eyes. They put their hands in their pockets' and gave what thev had!”
