SPANISH ACTION
CLOSING OE UNIVERSITY
United. Press Association—By Electric Telegraph —Copyi ignt).
(Received this day at 8 a.m.) LONDON, April 18
A Madrid correspondent states just w,hen the.public were supposing that the Government’s trouble with students had .blown over, Do Rivera dropped a bombshell by announcing the University of Oviedo had been suppressed until October, 1030; also, that unless the University of Barcelona amends its wavs it will likewise be shut.
A communique accompanying the Royal decree, states the weakness in the University is due to the connivance of professors in the actions of the students who made Oviedo an intolerable centre of rebellion. The Government will not hesitate to suspend every university, unless they cease revolutionary activities. No harm will be occasioned as Spain already has too many lawyers and doctors.
