HOSPITAL CLOSED

BY GISBORNE BOARD

BY TET.KGRAPH —PRESS ASSN.', COPYRIGHT.

GISBORNE, April 18. On the grounds that the Tologa Bay Cottage Hospital is not providing an adequate service for the amount ex* oended on it. the Cook Hospital - Board decided to-day to close the in- r stitution. ' This decision was arrived at after,-* a prolonged discussion on a telegram from the Minister of Health, stating that he could not agree to tire Board’s application to close the institution. The Board thus decided on a policy of open defiance of the Minister by six votes to five.

One speaker said that the Minister’s action was inconsistent, as when in Gisborne he had informed tlie Board that the decision lay with them; but now he had stated that J he did not agree with the closing of ■ the institution.
