NEW YORK, April 15

At Toronto, the negro, Gains (Canada) secured the verdict in a tenround contest over Cook (Australia). Gains; weighed 180 tits and Cook weighed 194 Jibs.

The Negro led in the first round pounding the Australian to the ropes with blows to the head. Thu second round was even, but Gains again came io the fore in the third with hard lefts to the body. Cook was then missing, and be continued to miss in the fourth round, but landed several stiff punches to the head, drawing blood from his opponent's nose. The fourth round was even.

Both men fought furiously, taking punches, and giving punishment in the fifth, hut the Canadian still led. The Negro had the Australian dizzy in the sixth round under a terrific attack, taking this round by a wide margin. The seventh round found Cook’s nose bleeding and his opponent making a target of it. 'The Australian seemed content to hold on, ami t.iis was Gain’s round.

Cook fought more gamely in the eighth, and the round was even. Cook was desperately tired in the ninth round and lie swung blindly. He tried boxing the Negro and the round was even.

The tenth was a hammer and tongs affair, both men trying to slaughter each other, hut it was Gain’s round.
